Club Notes…Thurs 18th Jan 2018

Well done this week to everyone, everything was thrown at you from biting winds, stinging hailstone, freezing sleet, snow and heavy downpours! I think they call that a character building week of running!

We need to say a huge congratulations to the team of 6 Eagle members who did the club very proud in the 2018 Munster Masters Indoor Championships in Nenagh last Sunday. A huge hall of medals and fantastic performances by Damian Kenneally, Steve Chrysanthou, Denis Looney, Ken Higgs, John Sheehan and Hugh McSweeney. See below for results and more information.

Club Awards Night:
A reminder that the club award nights is this Saturday the 27th of January. This is always a very enjoyable night and a nice opportunity to catch up on 2017’s achievements while making plans on what new records will be broken in 2018! Hope to see many of you there on the night.

Membership renewal:
Club membership renewal fees are now due for 2018. (€50 for individuals and €60 for families)
New members that joined the Club since 01st September 2017 are automatically paid up for 2018 also.

*A PayPal Account is not required only a Credit/ Debit card needed.

If this is not possible then fees can also be collected as follows:

Club registration night at the CIT track on TUESDAY 23rd JANUARY. (Mairead)
Give your sub to a fellow member that is attending either of the above and they can pass it on.
Post a cheque to our Treasurer, Kevin Sievewright (details on the website). please use this as a last resort we don’t want poor Kevin buried under a mountain of post!

Tempo Run Thursdays
The Club tempo runs continue on a Thursday night and all in attendance agree that it is a great training session. A few volunteers are needed just to ensure there is a contact person to keep this going.
Current available dates are : Thurs 1st Feb, Thurs 22nd Feb, Thurs 8th Mar, Thurs 15th Mar

Spring Marathons.
If anyone is interested in a spring marathon Eddie Trindle Ken Nyhan are heading to Hamburg at the end of April. Marathon is on Sunday, April 29th. Give Eddie a shout if interested. Current price is €80. Guaranteed entry. Direct flights from Dublin. Website is:

Long Runs for the weekend ahead: This weekend is the coffee run!

Date: Saturday 20th January 2018
Time: 8am
Meeting Place: Woodies and Costa Car Park in Turners cross.
Distance: 10-11 miles (Most of the last half of the route for the Cork City Marathon)
Pace: Suitable for all paces and open to non-members also.
There is currently a 8mm pace and a 9mm pace group but this can be split into further groups on the morning as needed.

Plenty of Eagles in the prizes from this race in Little Island at the weekend. Special mention to Alan O’Brien who had another great race, winning in a time of 19.06. Well done to all members who took part.

Track Field News ( John Desmond)
The club was well represented at the Munster Masters Indoor Championships in Nenagh on Sunday the 14th of January with 6 members making the trip to Tipp. All said and done, 11 medals were brought back to Cork with a fine collection of 2 Golds, 7 Silvers and 2 Bronze.
A special word of note to Ken Higgs who won 2 Gold medals in the 800m and 1500m and set an age group championship record in both events!
Well done to Damian Kenneally, Steve Chrysanthou, Denis looney, Ken Higgs, John Sheehan and Hugh McSweeney for representing the club at this Championship event.

Club News: John Desmond
12 Week Training Programme for the Mallow 10 : 37 members have signed up for the Mallow 10 training programme which started on the 1st of Jan. These are based on training for 3, 4 or 5 days per week so they should suit most people. Even if you’re not doing Mallow, they should get you into good shape for any other race around that time.

Tempo Run, Rochestown Road (Thursdays)
It is advised that members participating in the Thursday Tempo runs wear hi viz clothing, along with either a head-torch or some form of lighted armbands. Could members also please keep to the left hand side of the path when completing tempo sessions.
(Do a warm up of at least a mile on your own beforehand).

Cork City Marathon News
Entries are being taken for the 2018 Cork City Marathon which will take place on Sunday 3rd June. The online fee to enter the full marathon is €65 until the 31st March. The cost for the half is €42. For further details see here: http://www.corkcitymarathon.ie/entry
