Eagle AC Member Profile:
Name: Paul Cotter
Member of Eagle AC since: November 2015.
How long have you been running what made you take it up: October 2010. Myself and a friend met after the funeral of a mutual school-friend and it prompted us to get healthier. We targeted the Ballycotton 10 of 2011 to give us a focus. I got hooked and have been running ever since.
Favourite thing about running: No matter how stressed out you are, everything always seems better after a run.
Favourite race distance to run: Like most club runners, I try my hand at all distances (I’ve ranged from 3k to marathon) but I have a soft spot for 10 milers as my first races were all over that distance.
What is your main goal for this year: Currently working towards either the St Finbarrs 10 miler or Charleville half marathon…depends on how training goes.
Your best race/most memorable racing moment to date: Finally breaking the 3 hour barrier at the London marathon of 2017 and being met by a big gang of family members (wife, kids, parents, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews) to celebrate with after the finish line.
Tell us something most people might not know about you: Represented Cork and Munster in table tennis.
Biggest heroes (sporting or non-sporting): I was fortunate enough to know all 4 of my grandparents well, all of whom were inspirational in different ways.
One bit of advice you would give to someone thinking of taking up running: Get fitted for a decent pair of runners.
3 things you would take with you onto a desert island: A decent pair of runners, a Kindle loaded with books, enough food/drink to allow me to enjoy using the runners and Kindle.
