Track Guidelines

Members of Eagle AC train at the CIT track every Tuesday and Thursday evening. The following is a brief guide to track etiquette to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all runners.

Lane usage:
Lanes 1, 2, 3 and 4: For use by Eagle AC athletes
Lanes 5, 6, 7 and 8: For use by Belgooly AC Athletes.

Lanes 1,2,3 and 4: Lane 1 is for speed-work (please step out of lane one as soon as you finish your session, this includes for rest periods as other sessions may be running at the same time)
Lane 2 is for overtaking
Lanes 3 & 4 are for warm up and cool down

Please do not stand around in Lane 1, as it impedes those doing speedwork around you.
It is common for runners to shout ‘Track’ if they want to clear Lane 1 ahead of them. This should only be done if someone is standing around or a group has not moved to Lane 5 for recovery. It should not be used for someone who is simply doing their session at a slower pace than yours- it is up to you to overtake them in Lane 2.

Starting and Stopping: Only step into Lane 1 when you (and your group) are ready to start the speed session. Take a quick look back and let any group coming through pass.
Run in single file or maximum 2 abreast and only in Lane 1.
When stopping, peel off to one side onto the grass area, or if you are following your repetition immediately with a recovery lap, move out to Lane 4.

Headphones, MP3 players etc. The use of headphones on the track is strictly prohibited. They must be removed before you step onto the track. Anyone using headphones will be asked to remove them or leave the track.

Child safety and protection: Eagle AC currently shares track times on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Belgooly AC. Belgooly now have a large juvenile membership, and it is essential that we remain mindful of all aspects of child health and safety.
1. Eagle have use of lanes 1, 2, 3 and 4 while Belgooly use 5, 6,7 and 8. Please limit your training to these lanes only.
2. Please refrain from any offensive language that may be heard by nearby children, even when it is in jest or good spirit.
3. Please use changing rooms only to get changed, rather than on track or out in the car park.
4. If there is an issue with any child (e.g. children using our lanes, or anything else), please just mention it to whoever is on the track rota that night rather than to the children directly. We can make their coaches aware of anything if necessary.
