John O’Callaghan is currently putting together teams for the 2015 Cork City Marathon. The club will offer a reduced rate to any member who wishes to take part. If you’re interested then contact John as soon as possible.

Entries for the 2015 Cheetah Run in Fota Wildlife Park went on sale in two batches on Thurs the 30th of April…450 at 10am and 450 at 10pm.

The first batch at 10am sold out in just 13 minutes whereas the second batch at 7pm were being taken up at a more relaxed pace and took until 10:15pm to clear.

All said and done, it took just three and a half hours to sell the 900 places.

A retrospective look at the London Marathon…by John Desmond

After putting up the results of the three guys at the London Marathon, I noticed that Alan O’Brien’s time seem to be down a bit. I was following his live tracker during the race and he was on target for about a 2:50 marathon early on. I knew Alan wasn’t going for a PB but doing London more for the sense of occasion.

I thought perhaps Alan might have been feeling the pace a bit but no, our 2014 ‘Athlete of the Year’ had other ideas as I found out today.

Yip…that’s him having a pint of beer at the halfway mark! …….and then ran the second half to finish in 2:54:29!!

So if someone tells you in future that they were taking ‘High Fives’ during a marathon, don’t assume it’s the gels they’re talking about ;o)

We had two members in this half-marathon in Wexford with John McCarthy and Tim McCarthy making the journey.

Conditions on the day were quite tough with a strong breeze to contend with. The course itself certainly wasn’t flat with an ascent of 200 or so feet to contend with.

Tim McCarthy’s time of 1:31:46 was a new PB for him and comes just a month after running a PB of 3:29:23 in the Barcelona Marathon back in mid-March.

Back in September of 2013, Tim ran his previous PB for the half with a time of 1:41:05 in Charleville so he has come a long way in the last 18 months.
