See below for a great report written by Ken Higgs on how our 4 athletes – Ken Higgs, Vivian Foley, Hugh McSweeney and Richard Piotrowski fared at the Munster Masters Track and Field Championships in Templemore on Saturday 31st July.
Many thanks to Ken for writing this report up for us. As you will read below, it was a hugely successful day for the guys with no less than 7 gold medals secured between them all!
GOLDEN DAY FOR EAGLE AC AT TEMPLEMORE
Vivian Foley, Ken Higgs, Hugh McSweeney and Richard Piotrowski represented the club at the Munster Masters Track and Field Championship at Templemore on Saturday 31st July. Despite the very warm and humid conditions it turned out to be a highly successful day as they won all their age category events and claimed seven gold medals!
Vivian Foley – Gold in M50 1500m and 3000m
Ken Higgs – Gold in M70 400m and 800m
Richard Piotrowski – Gold in M70 3000m
Hugh McSweeney – M75 Gold in 100m and 200m
In addition, five championship records and one national record were posted. Vivian set championship records for the 1500m (4 min 29 sec) and 3000m (9min 20 sec), Ken set a championship record of 72.9 sec. for the 400m. Hugh set championship records of 15.21 sec for the 100m and 32.14 sec for the 200m, and the latter time turns out to be a fantastic National M75 track record also!
A special mention to Viv too – he competed in two races that included runners from younger M35, M40 and M45 categories and romped home in first place in both races. A stellar performance.
Overall, it was great to be racing again on the track and meeting fellow runners.
